-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elaine Friedman Nugent Tuesday, 5/6/03, 9:04 AM This is a great site..I too have Ackerman & Nudelman in my family..My grandparents came to America in the late 1890's..They saved us from the Holocaust! I read that when the Nazis invaded Bessarabia during WorldWarTwo they were amazed at the cruelty of the Romanians towards the Jews..Also, my grandparents joined "The First Bessarabian Benevolent Society" in New York..Henry Wilson was secretary in the 1940's..If someone passed away they called Henry and he made all the funeral arrangements..at Montefiore Cemetary on Long Island..Shalom. irv schoenberg Saturday, 3/29/03, 2:26 PM I commend those who made this website possible. I'm hoping that the Teleneshti Cemetery Project will be the forerunner of a website for our community/shtetl. I am hoping that looking thru the names of those who have signed in before me, I might find a name or two with whom I can relate. After all, Bessarbia is not that large an area. I was born in 1911 & was emigrated to the U.S.A. in August of 1914. My maternal name was URMAN. My Fathers family was NUDELMAN. From: Yedenitz E-mail: phneedelman@attbi.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lee Goldberg Sunday, 2/23/03, 12:06 AM I am enjoying the research. My mother,Chansa WAINROBER (Bernstein) born in Yedenitz in 1893, came to Ellis Island in 1921, with her father, Meier Wainrober, 2 sisters, and my brother. They joined other relatives from Yedenitz in Chelsea, Mass. They moved to NYC a few years later. Her mother's name was Rivka SOLOMON.Some of the Solomons went to Israel. Other names in the family were YAMPOLSKY,FRIEDMAN, CZACK (CHACK) and GELLMAN. Her cousin, Srul Friedman resembled the Wainrober family. She visited relatives in ISRAEL in 1964. Among them was David Weinrober, Haim Solomon, a Gellman, and a Yampolsky. The early Wainrober immigrants had put down the name J or Y SCHACTER or something close to that (starting with SCH) as their destination in New Hampshire & Mass. My mother attended a boarding school for girls in Chotin in 1910 & 1911, as marked in back of the pictures.I have a class picture & photos of her in the school uniform. Does anyone have an ancestor who possibly attended the same school? Please write if anything sounds familiar. Thanks Lee Goldberg Sun City West, AZ From: Sun City West, AZ E-mail: marvilee@aol.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hilik Tuesday, 2/18/03, 11:58 AM As u wrote before my parents made "ALIYA" IN 1951. My father was born in Yedints in 1930, his name Shlomo solomon. His father was called Haim ben Yeruham Hcohen Solomon. His mother was called Rachel gruzman\grusman. Father told me that his father had a big store for all stuff except textile. My father had a brother called "Yasha" (stands maybe for Josef?) and a sister called "Poly" (stands for "Pearl" ?).My father also told me that his father had two sisters younger then him who were taken by a childless pair to the US in between the years 1905 to 1915. at least that's what he was told. If any body can help me with this puzzle I will be more than 10kful. My parents, Anna Maiberg and Joseph are from Yednitz. They migrated to the U.S. in the 30's. My mother's mother and sister remained behind and perished as did so many others. Incidently, a Society that my parents belonged to ,which I believe n longer exists, is the INDEPENDENT BRITCHANER BESSARABIER BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION. P.Sydney Herbert Friday, 12/6/02, 1:28 PM Apologies to Eric who has been very hard at work updating and expanding this website and making it much more attractive and easily navigated. I would have deleted my previous note, but can't remember my password...It is a big task, as I know because I administer two family web-sites, and this one casts a net much further. Eric sent me, via e-mail, a page from the Yiskor book which I had translated privately, because I was impatient to find out about my relatives who had perished in the Holocaust. I am researching, from Moldavia, the ROBRISH/RABRISH and STERNBERG and KHARITAN/CARTUN families. I know Eric had a baby some months ago (mazel tov!) but surely, by now he is sleeping through the night? My connection to Yednitsy is this: My grandfather, Harry Robrish (b. 1875(?) d.1946)was probably born in Yednitsy. His father, Chaim, son of Feivel, was born in Skulyany. Chaim married Dvore Weisman. They had six children. The third, Deena, was born in Yednitsy in 1879. She married Josef Kharton. All the children except Deena emigrated to USA. She perished in the Holocaust. I am interested to find out if she and her spouse are mentioned in the Yizkor Book. Her sons returned to Yednitsy in 1924 to persuade her to emigrate, but they were unsuccesful and they returned to USA. Their name became Cartun. I am interested to find any surviving kin, or information about the family. My father, Yaakov Shani (Scheindelman) lived in Yedenitz for the first six years of his life. My grandfather, Menachem (Anschel) and great- grandfather, Mordechai, son of Eliezer-Shmuel, were born there. My family came to Israel in the early 1930's, but I have recently found out that my great-grandfather had a brother (G. Schindelman) and three sisters (names unknown) who emigrated to the USA in 1906 or so. I have found the record of the arrival of the brother's wife, Dobrish Schindelman, and his 2-year - old daughter, Gitl, on the Ellis Island web site, on Sept 11 1906. I would love to find my American cousins I never knew about... Peter I. Monheit, MD Saturday, 9/22/01, 11:40 AM This is very exciting. My younger brother, Donald, sent this Web site. Our mother, Rose (Golderberg) Monheit,is the youngest, and only child not born in Yedinitz. She is the only one still alive. She lives in Tucson, Arizona. The goldenberg family arrived in NYC via Ellis Island, in around 1903, or so. The lived at 150 Orchard St., NYC,NY, at the time of mom`s birth (on the 5th floor of a five story walkup tenement). Afew yours later they moved to Union St. in Brooklyn, NY. their names in chronological order are: Joseph, Samuel, Buelah, and Rose. Their first cousin, on the paternal side was actor "Edward G.(for Goldenberg) Robinson". If any of this resonates with anyone, please write and let me know. Some day I hope to visit what is left of Yedinitz. Peter I. Ed Berkowitz Thursday, 1/4/01, 7:00 PM Eric: What a super job on starting the website and in the translation project and your many other efforts associated with our Grandparents' shetl. My only regret is that I don't live closer to NY because I would so much want to play a more active role in assisting you. I can share many annecdotes that I have heard about Yedinitz. If you want, I will send you a JPG of my 101 + year old Aunt, most likely the oldest worldwide individual who was born in Yedinitz. You probably should hear hear tape in which she describes a 1906 Pogrom in Yedinitz that she personally witnessed.
