Welcome to the Yedintsy Website !
Introduction, Dedication and Goals
Yedintsy is the name of a shtetl that was located in the northwest section of what was referred to as Bessarabia. Yedintsy is the Russian name for the village and is still the local county name. The shtetl in Hebrew was known as Yedinitz. Today the village is known as Edineti and is part of the of the sovereign nation of Moldova (a former republic of the U.S.S.R.).
This website is dedicated to Jewish genealogy and history of Yedintsy. It is hoped that this site will serve as a depository of information regarding Yedintsy and also as a resource for those interested in it. It is additionally hoped that this website will serve as an avenue to view how those connected to Yedintsy came to and lived in America while maintaining their connection to Yedintsy.
Yedintsy is not known for any famous residents or any miraculous acts taking place within its boundaries. It is simply a place where individuals were born, lived their lives, emigrated from, and died in. It's history was changed irrevocably by the Shoah (i.e., the Holocaust) along with the lives of all of its residents. |
